Basava (25), from Doni village, Mundargi taluk, Gadag district, working in a wooden-roofing firm, and Lalitha (20), from Hubballi, have been in a relationship ever since he met her a year ago. But parents of both were opposed to their wedding, though they were of the same caste. In the meantime, Lalitha’s parents began searching for a groom.

Depressed, Basava informed his employer Jagadish about their decision to commit suicide together. Mr. Jagadish then informed a social worker, Vishu Shetty, who began efforts to resolve the issue

He spoke to the family and made arrangements for Ms. Lalitha to stay in a separate house in Ambalapady.

Though only the boy’s parents finally gave in, Mr. Shetty arranged the marriage at his own expense here on Thursday.

Both Basava and Lalitha  started thier new phase of life together.
