The race for ticket in M’lore North constituency turns ugly

Mangalore, Apr 7, 2013: The race for a Congress ticket from Mangalore North constituency turned ugly on April 6, Saturday evening when  supporters of two of the ticket aspirants Vijaykumar Shetty and Moidin Bava came to blows at the Mangalore Airport  just as AICC Secretary  and Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes arrived.

It is believed that Oscar is instrumental in deciding the candidates from the district  and according to reports, gathering hint of Oscar’s arrival, one  group had gone to welcome him while the other to demand a ticket for their leader. Just as Oscar arrived, the two groups vied with each other to meet him, culminating in a scuffle even as slogans were raised.

Sources said Oscar was visibly upset over the development and has made it a point to party men and leaders to see that such incidents which send a wrong message to the voters, are not  repeated.

It may also be no surprise if the clash between these two aspirants proved advantageous to another aspirant Kripa Alva, say some sources.
