Mangaluru, Mar 14, 2015: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport have on March 13, Friday arrested a passenger hailing from Thane in Maharashtra after it was found that he was hiding gold in his rectum.
Four gold bars weighing 472.520 grams and valued at Rs 12,35,640 have been seized from him. He had arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai at 9 am. This is the second such instance of a passenger being trapped for trying to smuggle gold by hiding it in his rectum.
The 43 year old man, a resident of Ulhasnagar in Thane has been identified as Deepak Nachaldas Wadhwa. He has been produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
