Ten arrested for oil pilferage from refinery tankers

Mangaluru, Dec 10, 2023: Dakshina Kannada CEN police personnel have successfully dismantled a bitumen theft operation taking place in Amai, Kadeshwalya village, Bantwal taluk. Ten individuals involved in the theft have been apprehended.

The operation unfolded when the suspects were in the process of transferring bitumen, transported from MRPL to other tankers. Inspector Manjunath and other officers from CEN station conducted a timely raid, leading to the arrests.

Upon interrogation, those involved claimed to be acting on the instructions of Vijaykumar Shetty from Udupi, with the assistance of Sudhakar Shetty, also known as Sudhakar Kottari.

The police confiscated six tankers, a weighing scale utilized for bitumen theft, a gas cylinder used for heating bitumen, an iron tank for storing stolen bitumen, and nine mobile phones from the apprehended individuals. The arrested individuals include Vijaykumar Shetty, Sudhakar Shetty, Mahammed Imran, Ashraf M, Virendra SR, Madaswamy, Prabhakaran, Naveen Kumar MG, Mahammed Nisar, and Mahammed Sihabuddin.

A case has been registered by Bantwal Rural police in connection with the incident.
