Team Mangalore to play against Shrilankan Team in Chaminda Vaas benefit match

Mangalore, Oct 29, 2011: Magnum Intergrafiks, DK Cricket Association, and Shri Lanka Cricket Team will organize a T20 cricket match on NMPT Grounds on Nov 19 called Chaminda Vaas Benefit T20 Cricket Cup 2011 as a benefit match for Chaminda Vaas, the former left arm pacer of Shri Lanka.

 

 

Magnum Intergrafiks Chairman Sudhir P. Ghate addressed reporters at a press conference held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Oct 29 Saturday and said that the objective of the match is to promote the game in the coastal regions of DK and Udupi, to provide opportunities for local players to play against an international team, to give the people of Mangalore an international cricket experience, and to create a festive atmosphere in Mangalore along the IPL format. 

Chaminda Vaas, the former left arm pacer of Shri Lanka, said that Mangalore is among the best cities he had ever seen. Speaking about his passion for cricket, he said that he had to sacrifice several things in life to become a fast bowler. He said that playing cricket is not an easy task and requires a lot of physical fitness. He also voiced his opinion that cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma make a strong team. Stating that the Shri Lankan team comprises a number of fast bowlers, he said that it is important to place them in the right position during a match. 

Revealing the details on the format, DK Cricket Association President Shrikanth Rai said that it will be a 1-day 20 – 20 match commencing at 2:30 p.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. The match will be played in the IPL format between Team Mangalore and the Shrilankan Team. The event will be held in association with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
