Mangaluru, June 26, 2020: DK District Taximen’s and Maxicab Association has threatened to launch a protest if the Union and State Governments fail to regulate the increasing fuel prices.
Speaking to reporters here on June 26, Friday, Association President Dinesh Kumpala M said the taxi and maxicab drivers who are already hit hard due to lockdown, are now further suffering due to fuel price hike and demanded withdrawal of the price hike.
He also said the Rs 5,000 compensation announced by the government should be extended to all taxi drivers including maxicab drivers having MLV badge.
Despite RBI clearly stating that banks should not pressurise to repay loans, banks have been pressurising drivers to repay the loans, he alleged. He also sought tax concession for all taxi and maxi cab drivers for the next six months.
On this occasion, he also pointed out that the district administration has not yet released the payment for the around 150 vehicles provided through the association to the Police and Health Departments for their Covid-19 related duty. He said repeated appeal in this regard has not yielded any result.
Anand K, General Secretary of the Association, Harish Shetty Kuttar, Dinesh, Vice Presidents and others were present.
