Task Force formed to oversee implementation of Gutka ban : DC

Mangalore, June 19, 2013 : Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has informed that a Task Force has been constituted to oversee the effective implementation of the Gutka ban in the district.

dc 1 Presiding over a meeting held in this regard on June 18, Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner said the Task Force must initiate strict action against those selling Gutka despite the ban, by conducting regular raids.

He said Task Force would comprise of Tahsildars and Taluk Medical Officers. Those who violate the ban can even be fined upto Rs 10 lakhs, the DC said adding even trading licence can be cancelled. The amount collected as penalty would be utilized towards awareness programmes on Gutka ban.

The DC has even asked the Task Force to take the assistance of the police department as well as the respective urban local bodies in ensuring that the ban was total.

Additional DC Dayananda KA, District Health Officer Dr Srirangappa, Tahsildar, and several other officials were present.
