Mangalore, jan 17, 2014: The Dalita Sangharsha Samithi has said that it was strongly against any move to issue SC certificates to Tamil migrants from Sri Lanka who have now settled across Puttur and Sullia districts.
Addressing press persons, DSS leader CH Bhasker said the Tamil migrants have been demanding SC certificates since long and added the government would only be doing injustice to Dalit communities in the district if it issued SC tag to the Tamil migrants.
He also pointed out that the migrants who were brought to the district from plantations in Sri Lanka had once earlier been denied caste certificates by the Apex Court in 1994 stating they are not eligible as they do not belong to the country.
They cannot be issued a caste certificate without a study of their ethnic background though the over 926 families who have migrated here in the 1970s belonged to Paraiyan, Adi Dravida and Chakkiliyan and Pallan communities which come under Scheduled Castes, Bhasker said. He further informed that the DSS was also planning a protest over the issue.
