Mangaluru, Dec 29, 2018: District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao has informed that a TB Detection Drive will be held from January 2 to 12 across the district as part of the efforts to free India of Tuberculosis.
Speaking to reporters here on December 29, Saturday he said the drive will be held in the district with particular focus on the tribal communities including Koragas and Malekudiyas. He said several high risk areas, places were labourers reside and slum areas will get more priority during the drive.
People in high risk areas will be subject to medical examination and in case they show symptoms of TB their sputum tests and x-rays will be done, he informed.
Dr Rao also stated that a TB patient can spread the disease to at least 15 to 20 persons. A total of 575 teams with 1,150 members including NGO workers, Asha volunteers, nurses and junior health assistants will be part of the drive.
District TB Control Officer Dr M S Badruddin, Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Sikander Pasha and others were present.
