Sword-wielding areca nut thieves injure son of Edapathya farm owner, one apprehended

Sullia, Nov 26, 2023: Edapathya Farms in Savanoor was targeted by two sword-wielding areca nut thieves on Saturday. Nishkal, son of Edapathya farm owner AR Chandra, who confronted the thieves during the act, suffered hand injuries. The family managed to apprehend one thief, Basheer, while the other escaped.

Nishkal, recently returned from Mysuru, caught the thieves loading areca nuts from the solar shed on Saturday morning, leading to a tense confrontation. The attackers, armed with a sword, threatened and injured Nishkal. His cries for help brought family members to the scene, resulting in the capture of Basheer.

Basheer, during questioning, confessed to a series of recent areca nut thefts, estimating the stolen loot’s value at around Rs 5 lakh. He claimed to be acting on the instructions of another thief named Hakeem, who managed to evade capture. The duo utilized a car belonging to Irshad for their criminal activities.
