Swimmer from Puttur said to be safe in Turkey

Puttur, July 18,2016: As per reliable reports, Vaishnav Hegde, an international swimmer hailing from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada, who was participating in World School Games in Turkey, is reported to be safe during the Turkey coup.


Vaishnav HegdeVaishnav is said to be one amongst 100 plus  participants in the game and the only one from the district. He went to Turkey on July 13 and is expected to return on July 18.


The games are being held in Trabzon and it is several kilometers away from Ankara where the clashes took place. Vaishnav reportedly spoke to his mother on phone and assured her that he was safe.

It is said that at one point authorities had decided to suspend the games; however, as the coup failed, the games went on.

Reports have confirmed that Vaishnav took part in an events.  The Central Government has assured the protection of Indians at Turkey and has promised to make arrangements for their return.
