If it were a government programme it would not have seen the light of the day.  Participation by each and every individual and his commitment for cleanliness only can change the scenario where we can stand with our heads erect with pride from the present disgraceful garbage sights. The ideas and potential action towards cleanliness, order and discipline put forth in the brain storming sessions of the day were  pointers for the future wellness of this divine effort.

This also demands a responsible and proactive stance from journalism and media which can highlight such small and yet meaningful and sincere attempts at change for the better. In this context, I congratulate the media at Mangalore for their contribution towards the success of the Abhiyan.

The initiative by Mangalore Ashrama is pivotal in this regard and is an apt model fit for emulation. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Group of Institutions, Mangalore who was the chief guest in the event spoke, “More and more workshops of such nature should be held. Mainly youth need to be aware and motivated to actively participate in Swachchata Abhiyan and the attitude of service has to be instilled in them. They learn more by seeing elders and teachers than by learning in the classes. Swacch mangaluru  Abhiyan is an apt platoform in this regard for youth to participate in the nation building activity”.

Sri A K Sahoo, Director (Finance), MRPL, Mangalore lauded the efforts of Mangalore Ramakrishna Mission and said  that MRPL is proud to be involved as patron in this initiative and that MRPL will be glad to support Ramakrishna Mission in its future programmes and expansion of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan in rural areas too.

Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of the Ashram also spoke on the occasion and thanked the citizens of  mangalore for their constant support and co-operation in the Abhiyan. He also thanked the media for their support week after week. He expressed wish to expand the scope of the abhiyan to rural areas too in the next phase if  the Ashram gets suitable support from the public and sponsors.

Inaugural programme was followed by Sessions by Swami Ekagamyanandaji, Sri Kota Srinivas Pujari and  Dr. M R Ravi, CEO of DK Zilla Panchayat. Captain Ganesh Karnik welcomed the guests and gathering and Sri Santosh Alva proposed the vote of thanks and anchored the programme.

It must be high lighted that the effort for this awareness workshop by Ramakrishna Ashram and associates is certainly a courageous and generous step in the right direction for the world, the nation and the people. It was good to note the sense of goodness of the Panchyath representatives and PDOs in their serious and durable participation and the enthusiasm shown all around. The rural efforts for clean and green are vital and this preview augurs well.
