Swacch Gram campaign by Ramakrishna Mission, to be extended to Udupi

Mangaluru, Dec 28, 2018: Swacch Grama (clean village) campaign now on in Dakshina Kannada, through the initiative of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mission will extend the campaign to villages of neighbouring Udupi district too this season covering,  200 villages in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

The mission is already undertaking Swacch Mangaluru campaign in the city by conducting Shramdan every Sunday in different parts of the city. The Swacch Gram campaign for the two districts will be inaugurated on December 29, Saturday at Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mutt. It would go on till October 2, 2019, said Swami Chidambarananda, chief convener of the campaign in a release here.

The inauguration of the campaign would witness the participation of elected representatives from gram panchayats, including presidents and vice-presidents, from these 200 villages. The villages would witness Shramdan on one Sunday of every month totalling 10 such events. The mission would provide all facilities to participating villages, including brooms, T-shirts for volunteers, awareness campaign material and vehicle to transport trash.

The programme would be inaugurated at 10.30 a.m. with the address of mutt president and mission secretary Swami Jithakamanandaji. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi zilla panchayat presidents Meenakshi Shanthigodu and Dinakar Babu, Deputy Commissioners S. Sasikanth Senthil and Priyanka Mary Francis, CEOs R. Selvamani and Sindhu Roopesh, the former MLC Ganesh Karnik, MRPL’s Group General Manager B.H.V. Prasad and others would attend the inaugural.

Meanwhile, 10 villages which had conducted the campaign successfully in Dakshina Kannada during 2017-18 would be recognised and presidents of those gram panchayats would be felicitated.
