Mangalore , Jan 1, 2014: Suratkal police have busted   a racket of    inter-state cattle thieves with the arrest of two persons who were responsible for stealing   cattle from the house of Mahadevi of Kaana after brandishing machetes.

The Police had    constituted a special team to track down the cattle thieves almost six months ago following protests against the rising cattle thefts in Suratkal area. The team which was constantly in search of the cattle thieves,   arrested   Hussain Kabir alias Kabbi alias Bodda Kabbi and Jabbar Hussain   from near the Idgah Maidan in Krishnapur Seventh Block late night on December 30, Monday.

On interrogation, the two revealed that they along with three others   had stolen cattle from the shed of Beeranna Shetty of Mukka and were also responsible for the theft of a cow of   good breed after brandishing machetes at the inmates   of the house of Mahadevi of Kaana. They were also reportedly responsible for the theft of cattle   in Koppa, Shringeri, Balehonnur, Hariharapura and other places of the state in their Tata Sumo vehicle.

The police said that the duo has admitted that they used to sell the cattle to slaughter houses in Ullal, Bantwal and Mangalore and that they had stolen over 20,000   cows   over the past seven years.

Of the two, Hussain Kabeer is the aide of notorious thief Kammaradi Haneef and was absconding despite a warrant from the Chikmagalur court   in connection with different cases. He is also facing   cases in Shringeri, Koppa, Kaup and Manipal.
