Sullia, Feb 22, 2018:  Karthik, a  student of Nehru Memorial College who had stabbed  to death his classmate Akshata  on February 20, Tuesday for not reciprocating to his love  which he had expressed towards her on several occasions, has been produced before the court on February 21 and remanded to judicial custody.

Akshata.

Meanwhile, Akshata’s body was brought to her home  at Shantinagar near Mulleria on Tuesday night and she was cremated on Wednesday after her sister arrived from Bengaluru.

Sources said the accused Karthik had planned to murder Akshata well in advance as was evident from his purchasing a knife from a shop in the town for Rs 30 and getting it sharpened by a carpenter. He had come to the class with the knife with the intention of  killing her inside the classroom itself. However, when he could not get an opportunity he followed her after she left  the college towards home and stabbed her.

One-way love : It is said Karthik has been stalking Akshatha since four months but was disappointed as Akshata had never reciprocated. It is said on February 18, Sunday he had sent her over 200 WhatsApp messages and threatened to kill her if she failed to accept his love. But the only mistake which Akshatha committed was that she neither took his threats seriously nor had informed her family members about it.

Candle light procession by ABVP : On Wednesday, members of the ABVP took out a candle light procession from the Chennakeshava Temple to KVG Circle to  condemn  the murder and pay tribute to Akshatha.
