Sullia, Aug 16, 2015: A herd of five elephants including four adult tuskers and a baby elephant caused panic in Bhasmadka area, nearly one km from Sullia town on August 14, Saturday after they barged into a local plantation.

It has been gathered that the elephants remained in the plantation till evening despite the efforts of the locals to drive them away by beating drums, bursting crackers and creating smoke.

As many as 25 forest personnel including Sullia ranger Subbayya Naik and Sullia ACF Ganapathi were at the spot trying their best to chase the elephants

Though large number of people headed to the area to see the elephant’s police stopped them fearing that the elephants may go on rampage out of fear.

The suspicion is that the elephants might have lost their way and had entered the plantation.
