Mangaluru, Mar 21 2019: The Government High School at Montepadavu in Bantwal taluk has come up with a novel idea to help students facing SSLC examinations get rid of the examination phobia.

As many as 300 students from five schools will appear for the examination at the Montepadavu school, identified as among the 95 centres across the district. There will also be 78 students of the school itself writing the examination at the centre.

To observe examinations as a festival, and to create a conducive atmosphere for children, Santhosh Kumar, Montepadavu School, has sent a formal invitation to the heads and teachers of five schools in and around Montepadavu, to accompany their students to the examination centre.

Welcome to exam centre

Santhosh Kumar told DH that the boards and banners had been mounted to welcome 300 students for the SSLC examination on Thursday. “The students and the accompanying teachers will be welcomed with ‘chende’ and band set to the school. Under a shamiyana, erected for the special occasion, light tiffin and lemon juice will be served to the students,” he added.

“All the students and the accompanying teachers will be welcomed with a rose. Around 15 girl students of the Montepadavu school will guide the SSLC students in locating their classrooms to write the examination. Also, all these activities will be conducted between 8.30 am and 8.45 am. By 9 am, all students will be inside the classrooms,” he explained.

He said students develop a sort of inhibition when they visit a new school in order to write the examinations. “While writing examinations, the palms of students start sweating. The students also have butterflies in their stomach during the examination. Some students who study the whole night feel exhausted within a few minutes of writing examinations,” he pointed out.

Blessing the students

Further, religious heads from Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities have been invited to bless the students before entering the classrooms. Each student will be given a pen by old students association president Haneef.

Muralidhar Shetty Morla, SDMC (school development monitoring committee) president, has sponsored breakfast for the children.

When asked on what motivated him to take up such an initiative, Santhosh Kumar said, “I was inspired by the Pink booth concept developed by Election Commission in the previous Assembly election to motivate women to exercise their franchise and decided to adopt the model for declaring SSLC examinations as a festival.”
