Mangalore, June 21, 2014: : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate A B Ibrahim has issued an order to MCC Commissioner, chiefs of other urban local bodies and Panchayat Development Officers to take measures towards identifying the open and dry borewells in the district and to insure they are securely closed within 10 days.
The order has come in the wake of accidental deaths of children after falling into open borewells in the State.
The order points out that in the district, there are a number dry borewells which are dug for private or public causes and under projects such as Ganga Kalyana Yojane.
Hence, the unused, open borewells need to be identified within three days and measures have to be taken to close such borewells within seven days, the order said.
People feel that administrative orders are not adequate if not implemented and followed up by proper vigilence teams. The death of a little child is proof enough that orders are not put into action.
