Mangaluru, Nov 15, 2018: Uppinangady police arrested three women for suspicious activity near Sri Sahasralingeshwara Temple and have seized stolen gold ornaments, weighing 156.140 gm and worth Rs 4,31,680, from them on November 14, Wednesday.  They have also seized two mobile phones from them.

arrest_1District Superintendent of Police Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda identified the arrested as Devamma (19), Nagamma  alias Roopa (18) and Geetha (24), who hail from Gadag.

Police have also said that the trio belonged to the nomadic community and were eking out a living by begging near railway stations along with children. As they could not get enough money for consuming alcohol, they would seek work in houses and estates as maids and labourers and later would  steal valuables from the houses.

During the interrogation, they revealed that they had stolen ornaments from the house of an auto driver at Bajal in Mangaluru, a month ago. They were also planning to carry out thefts in houses in Uppinangady.

The arrested were produced before Magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody.
