State not to support solar rooftop units says Power Minister

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 06, 2016: Karnataka state government is not extending any subsidy to encourage solar roof top units. However, the central government is providing 30% subsidy for purchase of such units by hospital, educational institutions and other government offices through the ministry of new and renewable energy from recognized channel partners, informed minister for power D K Shivakumar replying to a question from MLC Ivan D’Souza, chief whip of ruling Congress in state legislative council.

D K ShivakumaReplying to another query by MLC Ivan on rate at which the department purchases power from solar roof top units, Shivakumar said electricity supply companies buy power at Rs 9.56/unit on net metering basis that is in excess after meeting own power consumption needs by the producer not availing subsidy.

In case, a power producer (using solar roof top units) has availed subsidy to set up the unit, he/she gets paid Rs 7.90/unit for excess power generated and supplied to grid.
