Mangaluru, Feb 17, 2020:  Former minister B Ramanath Rai alleged that the achievement of the BJP-led government in Karnataka is nill. The government has even failed to release funds under MLALAD in order to implement developmental works in each Assembly constituency.

Even when 17 districts were affected by flood and landslides, the government had failed to initiate rehabilitation works.

Even the promise of Rs 5 lakh for those whose houses were damaged completely has not reached the victims, he claimed on Friday.

He told reporters at the Congress Bhavan that the government had failed to solve burning issues in Karnataka, while the Centre had increased the price of LPG cylinders when the country is reeling under economic crisis.

He said the Centre had failed to release funds to Karnataka under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

As a result, employment guarantee to the labourers has been denied.

The minor works implemented with funds under MGNREGS were stalled at the gram Panchayat level as the government had failed to get its share under MGNREGS, he alleged. Rai said even under Basava Vasathi Yojane, not even a single paisa was released for the construction of houses.

“The government under the pretext of preventing misappropriation is constituting a committee with deputy commissioner, ZP CEO and MLAs as members to select beneficiaries of Basava Vasathi Yojane. In fact, beneficiaries were selected during the gram sabha at every gram panchayat.

Now, the government is conspiring to nip the powers of gram panchayats in selecting the beneficiaries of housing scheme, he said.

The former minister alleged that all the development works, including completion of a veterinary college building, DC office complex and Ambedkar Bhavana was moving at a snail’s pace.

Even work on the construction of a series of check dams under Paschima Vahini project was moving at a snail’s pace. After Siddaramaiah, none of the governments has released funds for Paschima Vahini project, he added.
