State ABVP to organize engineering project expo Srishti 2012

Mangalore, May 10, 2012 : The state unit of the Akhil Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will organize Srishti 2012, a state-level exhibition of projects created by engineering students from May 12 to May 14 at Sahyadri Engineering College in Mangalore.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held on Wednesday, ABVP General Secretary Kumar Alva said that around 2000 students from over 75 engineering colleges across the state are expected to participate in this event. Besides, technical experts from the academic and corporate sectors will also participate.

Revealing further details, he said that Srishti has received an overwhelming response this year. The organizers had received 700 projects, and a panel of experts had selected the best 250 of them. Besides, 500 technical papers and 200 hobby projects have been submitted for the event Avishkar, out of which the panel of experts selected only 200 technical papers and 100 hobby projects.


This year, the event will include a new competition called Idea Impact, which challenges students to present innovative ideas on the subject “Science and Technology for Social Empowerment and Solution to Problems Faced by the Nation.” Over 75 entries were submitted under this category, out of which 35 best ideas were selected.


He said that the technical paper presentation and Idea Impact will be held on May 13. Projects will be evaluated by academic and industry experts on the same day.


A reception committee headed by Sudhir Ghate, the chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks Pvt. Ltd. and an organizing committee headed by Devdas Hegde, the principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, have been formed to make the required arrangements.


Mr. Alva also said that CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the event at a special ceremony held on May 12, Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The chief guests will be MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and E. S. Chakravarthy, the centre head of TCS Bangalore. The chief speaker of the event will be N. Ravikumar, the zonal organizing secretary of ABVP, while Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the chairman of Bhandary Foundation will preside.


On May 13, Shradhalu Ranade, a renowned scientist from Chennai, will deliver a special talk on the topic Understanding India at 3:30 p.m. A cultural program has been arranged for 6:00 p.m., the highlights of which will be Rashtra Devobha, a patriotic play by Sanatana Natyalaya.  At 11:00 a.m., a special seminar titled “When Medicine Met Engineering – Opportunities and Scope in India and Developing World” will be presented by Dr. Praveen Bhat Gurpar, the eminent pharma scientist.


The valedictory ceremony will be held on Monday at 4:30 p.m., during which the prizes will be distributed. The chief guests of the event will be Shri Anand Asnotikar, the minister for science and technology; Siddaiah, the principal secretary for higher education; and Shri Suhad Gopinath, the youngest CEO in the world. A prize pool of Rs. 3 lakh will be distributed among winners of various competitions, along with the championship trophy, runner up trophy, and student friendly award.


The chief speaker of the event will be Dr. Raghu Akmanchi, the national ABVP vice president, while MLA Yogish Bhat, who is also the deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly, will preside.


The project exhibition can be viewed from 10:00 a.m. on May 13.
