Startup Karnataka Yatra to focus on tier II and III cities

Bengaluru, Dec 10, 2018 (PTI): The Department of IT and BT, Government of Karnataka in association with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India is organizing a Startup Karnataka Yatra for two days from December 17.

Officials said 419 districts spread over 28 states and 6 Union Territories have registered for the program. “About 44% of the startups are from Tier II and Tier III cities.”


The event involves a two-day acceleration program at a suitable incubator for ideas/startups shortlisted from the boot camps. The acceleration program and grand finale of the Startup Karnataka Yatra are scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on the December 17 and 18.

The government, the statement said, is organizing boot camp at 8 to 10 different academic institutions in Tier II and Tier III cities. In order to attract maximum participation from Tier II and Tier III cities, evangelization of the Startup Yatra before the boot camp is being conducted at Bidar, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Uttar Kannada, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya and Tumukuru.

In the past, the state government had shortlisted 77 startups under Elevate 2018 programme, where the IT-BT department would provide funding up to a maximum of Rs 50 lakh per startup. The programme had witnessed about 600 applications from across the State.
