St Lawrence statue unveiled at Attur shrine

Karkala, Jan 20, 2020: A 15 feet statue of St Lawrence   installed on a pillar of 32 feet height was inaugurated and blessed by Udupi Diocese Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on January 19 Sunday at the St Lawrence Minor Basilica at Attur. 

 

The Nine-day Novena was inaugurated by MLA of Karkala Sunil Kumar after the Holy Eucharistic celebrations. The Annual Feast is scheduled to be held from January 26 to 30.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Kumar said the St Lawrence Basilica which attracts people from all religions is a place of great significance. He also highlighted the various developmental works taken up in the region and added that the road leading to the church from Gundiadka will be widened after the feast.

 Joylus D’Souza, President, Christian Development Board, Karnataka,  Fr Gregore D’Souza, Rector, St Lawrence Minor Basilica, Fr Roy Lobo, Fr Stephen D’Souza, Director, Literacy Commission, Diocese of Udupi, Reshma Uday Shetty, Zilla Panchayat Member, Saritha Poojary, Nitte Gram Panchayat President, Fr Melwyn Roy Lobo, Assistant Priest, St Lawrence Basilica and others were present.

A total of 46 masses will be held in Konkani and Kannada during the annual feast.
