Mangaluru, Sep 25, 2016: Hundreds of youth ran today for healthy heart to mark the countdown for the World Heart Day.Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, Mukka organized HEART-A-THON, the 1st Marathon on September 25, Sunday as to mark the annual event World Heart Day which takes place on 29th September.
The objective of the event was to create public awareness regarding heart disease and prevention, heart care, healthy lifestyle etc.
The 4 kilometre marathon began from Srinivas Hospital, Mukka to Suratkal commenced with the formal inauguration and the lighting of the sports lamp at 7:a.m. The runners were flagged off by the chief guests Col. Ranjith Chacko and actress Sukartha Wagle. Athlete Vikas Puthran lighted the sports lamp.
Doctors from Udupi and Mangalore, students from Srinivas College and various other colleges participated in the run. The marathon signified the need to avoid the risk factors such as use of tobacco, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol which are responsible for cardiovascular diseases. Certificates were given to the participants and prizes were distributed to the winners.
