Mangalore, June 3, 2013: It has been reliably learnt that TR Jagannath, ACP, Mangalore South, who has been charged of sexually harassing Pandeshwar ASI Srikala, has been transferred to Bangalore, following the complaint lodged against him by the lady ASI.
Jagannath has served in various places of the district since the past several years. Srikala in a complaint lodged with the Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar had alleged that the ASI had only denied her leave but also used to mentally and sexually harass her.
Various organizations including DYFI and Forum Against Atrocities on Women had demanded a high level probe and action against the guilty officer.
The Commissioner meanwhile had handed over the case to a committee formed to redress sexual harassment cases and had assured action on the basis of the report. Now reports state that the ACP has been transferred even as probe is underway.
Earlier, allegations were also heard that the police department was making attempts to shield the accused ACP and was also pressurizing ASI Srikala to withdraw the complaint.
