Speed is deadly- speeding lorry kills cyclist

Mangaluru, Mar 19, 2015:  There is no doubt that ordinary people pedestrians in particular, are becoming vulnerable on the roads. May be it is time that  armour be worn by these common people.  Blaming circumstances is of no sense, the laws, rules and more need to be enforced and authorities need to take action. The physical/mental state of  drivers, specially heavy trucks/lorries must be checked sufficiently. 

 

 

 

Cyclists are rare and the percentage must be very low, yet one sees many involved in accidents.  Is it because the big and mighty do not respect and value their lives? Possibly as no other explanation fits.

A lone cyclist was crushed to death on the spot when a speeding lorry rammed into his bicycle near Padil overbridge here on March 18, yesterday.  The cyclist has been identified as Basavaraj (50), resident of Pallakere, Bajal.

It is said that the lorry plying towards Panemangalore rammed into Basavaraj near the overbridge at Padil.  The lorry was being driven at a high speed, sources said.  Basavaraj was on his way home fro work when the accident took place.  

He was a watchman at Yenepoya school, Jeppinamogaru.   Rural police have registered a case.
