Mangaluru, March 3, 2024: UT Khader emphasized the crucial role of elected members in gram panchayats in facilitating the implementation of central and state government schemes for the public. His remarks came during the inauguration of ’Hombelaku – 2024’, a sports and cultural event organized by the Grama Swaraj Trust for elected representatives and staff of GPs at Sahyadri Ground in Adyar on Saturday.

Khader stressed the responsibility of GP members and staff in ensuring that government schemes effectively reach beneficiaries at the grassroots level. He highlighted the importance of cultural events in boosting morale among them. Khader urged participants not to be discouraged by failures but to remain confident in achieving future goals, advising them to view failures as stepping stones to success.

Dinesh Gundu Rao, the district minister of Dakshina Kannada, emphasized that the primary focus of elected representatives should be the welfare of the people. He urged them to serve society and carry out development projects impartially, without political bias. Rao suggested organizing similar events regularly to further these goals.

Inaugurating the Grama Swaraj Trust, Rao highlighted the importance of preserving traditional cultural practices alongside embracing innovation.

The event was attended by various dignitaries including programme organizer and MLC Manjunath Bhandary, opposition leader in the Legislative Council Kota Shrinivas Poojari, MLC K Harish Kumar, MLAs Ashok Kumar Rai and PM Narendraswamy, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority chairman Sadashiva Ullal, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation chairperson Mamatha Gatti, and DK Milk Union Limited president Sucharitha Shetty.

The festival included a march past by GP members from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, adding to the festivities.
