Mangalore, May 27, 2014 : Thieves burgled the house of one Victor D’Souza at Konaje on the night of May 26, Monday and have escaped with gold worth over Rs 10 lakhs.
They gained entry through the backdoor when the family was asleep.There were about five persons in the house at Konaje including Victor D’Souza and his wife Severine. The family members suspect that the thieves used chloroform or some substance on them, as they were totally not conscious and unaware of the theft till morning of Tuesday May 27.
It has come to light that the thieves used same modus operandi on same night and broke into two other houses in the vicinity including the house of Ayub where they did not get anything to take away. The thieves broke the lock of the house of Ibrahim, but failed in their attempt to loot. Then, thieves broke into the houses of Abdullah and Latif and stole about Rs 4,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, it is said.
People in the area hearing news of the thefts, were shocked. It is felt that though similar thefts have occurred several times in the past in Konaje area, the police have failed to book the culprits and no proper action is seen.
Cases have been registered in Konaje police station for investigations. Konaje police led by SI Gopalkrishna arrived at the spot along with canine squads and fingerprint experts.People are now demanding effective action at the earliest.
