Someshwara Beach to get a face lift escalate in popularity

Byndoor, May 7, 2017: Dakshina Kannada’s  Someshwara Beach in Byndoor escaped the public glare all these years and only those well-versed with the region were aware of its presence.

Located on the foothills of Ottinene hillock in Byndoor, Someshwara is one of the safest beaches as visitors can venture into the sea for a longer distance than any other beach, thanks to the shallow waters of the Arabian Sea.  The beach, of late, has been receiving good number of tourists which increases during the weekends.

The Tourism Department, which is on a spree to spruce up places of tourist importance, has undertaken a project to develop the beach at a cost of Rs. 1.49 crore.
Its plans include constructing a retaining wall in front of the temple to provide parking space with inter-lock blocks and guard rails, public toilet facility, high-mast lighting, and more.

Assistant Director of the department at Udupi, Anitha, said  that the work was awarded to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd. (KRIDL) and so far Rs. 61 lakh has been spent on building the retaining wall, parking space, and high-mast light.  Public toilets will soon be constructed, she said. The development proposal also includes offering jet ski ride on the sea for visiting tourists.

Director Anitha said jet ski will be in place during the final phase of development work.  Now there are many tourists at this spot, mainly from the hinterlands, including Bengaluru,.

quite a few revealed  that they were visiting Someshwara Beach for  years and include  it in his annual tour package of coastal Karnataka.  The works being undertaken are good not only for the region, but also for the visiting tourists, it was said. The parking space, high-mast lamp, and public toilets go a long way in serving visiting tourists.
