Mangaluru, May 20, 2018: Mud from the adjacent hill near the exit road of the Mangaluru International Airport at Kenjar is getting washed away due to rain and landing on the road posing threat to motorists.
It is learnt that the soil from the hill is being excavated for the airport works. Heavy rains in the road has resulted in mud accumulating on the Kenjar to Adyapady road. Already several tyres of vehicles have got stuck in the slush while bike riders too have suffered a fall and sustained injuries.
Locals sensing danger have ensured the soil is removed from the road through a JCB. Barricades have also been installed as a precautionary measure.
However more rain would mean more danger. Meanwhile unscientific side drains constructed here has proved to be of little help with rain water not flowing in the drain which has been constructed at a higher level than the road.
Malavoor GP Chief Ganesh Arbi has said that as a temporary measure steps have been taken to ensure rain water do not flow on the road. However as the issue is pertaining to PWD and Airports Authority, the matter would be brought to their notice, he added.
