Mangalore, Jul 7, 2013: It is the society which has to ensure that women are safe. The government can see to it that those responsible for harassment of women get the strictest of punishment, said State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader.
Participating in an interaction programme on development of Coastal Karnataka held at the Bishop House on July 6, Saturday under the aegis of the Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Khader was answering a question if the Congress Government can ensure the safety of women during night time.
Khader lauded the role of Catholic institutions in the field of education, he at the same time said Coastal Karnataka famous for its beautiful beaches can be developed into a tourism paradise on the lines of Kerala and Goa.
A memorandum was submitted to District Minister and State Minister for Ecology and Environment, listing out various demands that would ensure development of coastal Karnataka. Among other demands put forth included a four-laning of Mangalore-Hassan stretch and a fly over at Nantur junction.
Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo, Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava and others participated in the function.
