Udupi, Nov 16, 2014: A young woman who was found in a battered state and was begging for food  has been rescued and hospitalised by some social workers. Later it came to light that she was constantly raped and abused after drugging her.

The distraught woman whose age is estimated at 21 could only reveal her name and her hometown. According to social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady  the woman said she was from Kasargod. However, the name was yet to be ascertained. Shetty who spoke to reporters here also said that the woman has admitted that she has taken to alcoholism to forget her problems.

Shetty informed that he  found her in a miserable state on November 13 and she revealed about the sexual harassment meted out to her, after she was admitted to the Hospital.

At the same time, Shetty vented his ire over the Women’s Helpline of the Department of Women and Child Development which failed to come to the rescue of the distraught woman even after being informed.

He said  efforts would be made to secure justice to the woman once her parents were traced. Sunder Shetty Kappettu, Manikanta, Sanil and others who helped in rescuing the girl were present at the press meet.
