Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2020: Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home ’Snehadeep’ at Bejai since the past several years has been chosen for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019. Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.
The Award presentation ceremony will be held at tthe Urwa Radhakrishna Mandir Hall on February 29 on the occasion of Press Club Day, informed Muhammad Arif Padubidri, General Secretary of Mangaluru Press Club.
Tabassum who is the daughter of Abdul Samad, Khairunnisa couple belongs to an economically backward family. A meritorious student, Tabassum though had dreams of achieving big, there was always the lack of encouragement. She was even married off while she was still pursuing graduation.
However, the strong urge within herself to contribute something to the society paved the way for the starting of Snehadeep organisation aimed at taking care of HIV/AIDS affected girls, after one of Tabassum’s close friends lost her battle in life due to AIDS.
Her organisation functioning at Bejai presently has 26 orphan children from various parts of the state. They are all looked after with great care and affection at Snehadeep which is rendering yeoman service to mankind with the help of donors.
