Social media post lands Karnataka activist in jail

Bengaluru, June 07, 2018: The DJ Halli police have arrested a person on charges of instigating attack on journalist and media advisor to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Dinesh Amin Mattu. The accused is identified as B R Bhaskar Prasad, an activist and member of various organisations.

Mattu had filed a complaint with DJ Halli police on Friday accusing Prasad of posting baseless allegations against him on Facebook. The post was allegedly intimidating in nature and was instigating pro-Hindu activists to carry out an attack on the complainant. Based on Mattu’s complaint, the DJ Halli had registered an FIR against Prasad, a resident of Nelamangala.

A team of policemen went to Prasad’s house in Nelamangala around 2 am to arrest him. Meanwhile, Prasad allegedly did not open the door. Around 6.30 am, he complained of chest pain and went to Jayadeva Hospital, where his advocate visited him. Around 2 pm, he was discharged from the hospital and the police team, who were following him, arrested him as soon as he came out of the hospital, the police said.Prasad has been booked under different sections of the IPC.

Prasad’s recent Facebook post had accused Mattu of instigating the former to murder a writer, about two years ago. He had also alleged that the police were not receiving his complaint.
