Speaking on the occasion, CWC Chairperson and advocate Asha Nayak said the workshop aimed at highlighting the present scenario in the district. She was critical of the police in failing to act against the perpetrators of crime against women on many occasions.

Citing a recent instance wherein a young pair was taken to task by members of a Hindu outfit at Pilikula, Asha Nayak pointed out that even in this case the police instead of initiating action against the moral policemen took the young pair to the station and summoned their parents.

She was also critical of the politicians and said they come into the picture and voice concern for the victims only when elections near.

Social activist Vidya Dinker who also spoke on the occasion, stressed the need to fight against such activities. She said steps would be taken to create awareness among students.

Prof. Narendra Nayak, eminent rationalist,PB D’Sa, PUCL State President and several others spoke at the meeting.
