Mangalore, March 19, 2014: The Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport have once again thwarted an attempt of smuggling of Gold valued at Rs.24,09,806 on March 19, 2014.
The customs officials have seized Gold pieces and granules, totally weighing 800.6 grams valued at Rs.24,09,806/- concealed in four LUX brand bathing soaps and one American Garden brand Chocolate syrup bottle from the possession of a passenger named Abdul Gafoor aged about 30 years.He is a resident of Melangadi house, Manjeshwar, Bangaramanjeshwar, Kasargod District in Kerala state.
He had arrived at Mangalore International Airport on 19-03-2014 at 7.30 AM by Air India Express fight IX814 from Dubai. The passenger has been arrested and produced before the District Magistrate.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of Shri. Krishna Kumar Prasad, Asst.Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore international Airport and were lead by B. Prabhakara Poojari, Lionel Fernandes- Customs superintendents along with Inspectors Sendhil Murugan, B A kariappa and H G Yogesh
The Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore D. Purushotham expressed his deep concern in the increasing trends in smuggling and directed the officers to intensify the vigilance and survillance and crack attempts made by the unscrupulous elements who are indulging in these activities.
