Uppinangady, July 4, 2014: The driver of the tanker laden with gas lost control over the vehicle and hit an electric pole before overturning at Bedrodi in Uppinangady on July 3. Driver Murthy and cleaner Anand have suffered minor injuries in the mishap. Traffic on NH-48 was at a stand still for nearly 16 hours.
The gas from the tanker was seen flowing, the fire service personnel stopped the movement of vehicles on the highway and insured safety. As a precaution the movement of vehicles were diverted. The process of transferring gas to another tanker was completed at 9 pm. The movement of vehicles resumed only after the gas was emptied to another tanker and security restored.
All the vehicles plying on the highway were stopped at Subramanya road, Gundya and Golithottu and were diverted via Kadaba-Gundya road. Light vehicles were asked to ply via Nellyadi-Uppinangdy route. Due to the disruption in movement of vehicles, bullet tankers were seen stranded along the highway.
With the police regulating the movement of vehicles, students, daily wage labour and public from Nellyadi, Kokkada, Golithottu, Neerakatte, Valalu, Bedrodi were gravely inconvenienced and the daily life was chaotic.
An electric pole was also damaged in the mishap and electricity supply in region failed.
