Mangalore, July 14, 2013: Mangalore police with the assistance of the Bhubaneshwar police Commissionerate has recovered the miniature idols made of precious metals and stones which had been stolen from the Siddantha Mandir Basadi of Moodbidri on July 6.
It is learnt, the police have seized three idols and gold ingots weighing 1.5 kg , gem stones and Rs 2 lakh cash from a house at Chandrashekharpur. The value of the seized valuables is estimated at Rs 3 crores. Police said the gold ingots had been made after melting some of the idols.
It is learnt, the house from where the stolen goods were recovered was that of the father-in-law of Santosh Das alias Ghanshyam Das, an attender in the State Secretariat. He is said to be missing.
A total of 15 idols had been reported stolen from the Basadi.
