Moodbidri, July 11, 2013 : District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Forest Ecology and Environment B Ramanatha Rai has said that steps would be taken to probe the Siddantha Darshana Mandira burglary case through the Union Home Ministry. It may be recalled here that ancient precious idols worth Rs 13 crores had been stolen from the Basadi recently.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Basadi and holding talks with the Jaina Mutt Seer on July 10, Wednesday, he said a police outpost too would be set up at Jainapete.
Rai said all out efforts would be made to undertake a thorough probe into the case and recover the ancient, precious idols which are a national treasure.
On this occasion, the seer Swastishree Bhattaraka Charukeerthi Swamiji sought additional police forces and CCTV cameras at strategic points to ensure safety. He also clarified that ‘Only Jains are allowed to have a glimpse of the precious idols now, in view of security and there was no other reason.”
Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, Assistant Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Patnashetty Sudhesh Kumar, Trustee of the Basadi and others were present.
