Shringeri shoot-out : No bail for accused ANF cop Naveen Naik

Shringeri, May 19, 2014 :  Naveen Naik, the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) cop who is facing charges of gunning down a cattle trader named Kabeer at Tnaikodu check post near Shringeri on April 19, has failed to secure bail. The Additional Sessions Court has denied bail to him.

It may be recalled here that Naveen Naik had gunned down Kabeer suspecting him to be a Naxalite when he tried to flee despite a directive to stop. The incident had taken place during the wee hours with ANF personnel on duty near the check-post as the area faced Naxal problem.

Ironically the accused ANF constable Naveen Naik has also won the President’s Gallantry Medal in 2012 for  his bravery during an encounter with Naxals.

The shoot-out however had raked up a controversy with BJP and its affiliate organisations defending it and condemning the arrest of the constable. However various other organisations have condemned the shoot-out.
