Shirva: Group assault on father-daughter; apathy of cops deplored

Udupi, Jan 20, 2014 : A  17 year old girl  was allegedly abused and beaten up  by a group of around 30 to 40 people  over a land dispute on January 19, Sunday. It has been gathered that the girl’s father too was thrashed and abused when he rushed to his daughter’s help.

 The victim, a  B.Sc student, has reportedly identified some of the accused  as  Dheeraj, Suresh, Subya, Vishwanath, Sushant and Vanaja. Of the accused Dheeraj  is said to be a member of the Kutyar Gram Panchayat. The victim girl has even alleged that one of the accused Sushanth was also recording the incident.

 Meanwhile, locals are furious over the Shirva police who have failed to act against the accused despite them  roaming freely. It has been gathered that though the father and daughter were taken to the Government Hospital at Shirva soon after they lodged a complaint, they have not been provided any treatment.

Some  locals allege that even the District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has  not stepped in to ensure justice to the father and daughter.

In another development, locals are planning a protest if the police failed to arrest the accused. It has also been gathered that a bandh call has been given.
