Mangaluru, Jan 2, 2015: DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai has informed that Shiradi Ghat stretch  of road  between Gundya and Sakleshpur is closed for traffic from January 2, Friday  in view of the road repair and maintenance works.

The Minister has said that alternate routes have been fixed for different vehicles which otherwise use the Shiradi Ghat stretch of road. He said that motorists have to strictly adhere to the guidelines on alternate routes  and authorities will maintain a vigil on the vehicles. The first phase of the works is likely to be completed by May end, he informed.

While admitting that there may be some problems initially, Rai said everything would settle down as days progress and changes in alternate routes may be made if necessary.

Light commercial vehicles including cars, jeeps and buses  moving towards Bengaluru  from Mangaluru will have to  take the BC Road, Mani, Puttur, Madikeri, Mysore, Mandya  and Ramanagaram route, while vehicles going towards Hassan will take a diversions at Hunsur  and proceed via Holenarasipur.

On the other hand heavy vehicles will have to take the Udupi, Kundapur, Bhatkal, Murudeshwar, Honnavar, Shimoga, Tiptur and Nelamangala route.

Light vehicles from Udupi to Bengaluru will take the Karkala, Kudremukh, Kalasa, Kottigehara, Moodigere, Belur and Hassan route. The Rajahamsa and Airavatha buses of KSRTC and other heavy vehicles will  ply on the Kundapur,Siddapura,Hosangadi,Balebare Ghat,Mastikatte,Hosanagar–Ayanur,Shimoga route.

Dr Sharanappa, District Superintendent of Police  was also present.
