Puttur, June 23, 2014:  Tension prevailed at Kaniyoor  for some time on June 22, Sunday after officials arrived  for the shifting of the  Kaniyoor First Grade College. The official team including Siddaraju, Joint Director of the Education Department had to face stiff resistance and were forced to walk away. However they were intercepted by villages at Belandur where they were questioned  why the government orders were not adhered to. It was only after a police team led by DySP arrived that the officials were allowed to move.

Earlier when the officials arrived at Kaniyoor College, the local MLA Angara had rushed to the spot and questioned the shifting of the college. But the official team had to face the wrath of Belandur residents as the college was planned to be shifted to Belandur.

Joint Director Siddaraju said though the college principal was informed about the shifting on Saturday, his mobile phone was switched off and therefore  complaint of missing has been lodged.  He also stated that as per government orders, the college would start functioning at Belandur from Monday. He also made it clear that it was not the New Model College that was being shifted but the Kaniyoor First Grade College.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, ZP Chief Asha Timmappa Gowda, TP Chief Pulasya Rai and several others were present.
