Mangaluru, March 07, 2016 : Several groups of amateur anglers and members of Mangaluru Anglers Association enthusiastically participated in an angling competition organised at Pilikula lake on March 6, Sunday as part of Mathsya Mela -2016. The event was organised by the Karnataka Veterinary, Animals and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Department of Fisheries and Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation.
A.B. Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the event by resorting to angling. He also inaugurated a mobile canteen serving fish products named ’Matsya Darshini.’ This canteen will camp in Pilikula on Sundays while it would move around in different parts of the city on the other days.
Nine members of Pilikula Anglers Club were distributed ID cards on the occasion.
Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Dr H N Gopalakrishna, CEO of Pilikula Nisargadhama Dr S A Prabhakar Sharma, KFDC Chairman Hiriyanna, Fisheries College Dean Dr K M Shankar,Governing Council Member of Pilikula Nisargadhama Society Prof B A Vivek Rai and others were present on the occasion.
