Scrap yard (Gujiri) at Bunder, Mangalore cleared

Mangalore, Nov 21: The ‘Gujiri’ yard at Beebi Alabi Road, Mangalore was forcibly cleared in the early morning flash operation on Saturday November 21. It may be recalled that the DC had given warning to the scrap dealers last week to clear the material dumped in the road. The dealers did not bother to clear the scraps till yesterday. The district administration had to use force to vacate the encroachers.
With tight police security, district administration and the City Corporation (MCC) cleared everything from the Beebi Alabi Road, Bunder Mangalore.

 

 

 

The entire stretch of road was occupied for several years despite frequent attempts to clear the illegal occupation. All these years, the encroachers had support from ruling corporators and political parties and they had stayed there as untouchables. The swift operation of clearing of scrap had faced strong protest and war of words.

How long will this road remain free of scraps and dumps- is a question. Let’s wait and watch.
