Kollur, Feb 27, 2014 : Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Ashram has said that it was not proper on the part of the government, local administration and other authorities concerned to turn a blind eye to the pollution of the sacred Sowparnika river in Kollur shrine.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting the banks of Sowparnika prior to the launching of the Save Sowparnika movement organised by the Kodachadri Parisara Samrakshana Trust at Kollur on February 26, Wednesday. The seer further urged the administration to take steps to protect the sanctity of the holy river in a pilgrimage centre which is thronged by devotees.
The shrine earns crores of rupees of revenue every year but still the lack of basic amenities in the town is glaring, the seer regretted. Ministers and dignitaries who visit the shrine are least bothered about the pollution caused to the river, he said and added that if steps were not taken to check contamination then a severe movement will be launched.
K Sabhu, President of the Trust, TP Member Gowri Devadiga, Samudghadananda Swamiji, Harish Tolar and others were present.
Though the Sowparnika river was cleansed by Nada ITI students about six years ago, the river reverted to the previous state owing to the release of effluents from private lodges in the vicinity.
