Mangaluru, June 14, 2020: Sangh Parivar activists have been accused of assaulting a cattle transporter after tying him to the vehicle on Sunday morning. The cattle transporter who was assaulted is Abdul Rahman (34) of Jokatte. The incident occurred when he was transporting four buffaloes from his house at Jokatte to the Kudroli slaughter house during the wee hours of Sunday.
It is learnt the activists stopped the vehicle near the Infosys building at Kottara and after making him alight the vehicle, tied him up and brutally thrashed him.
The police who rushed to the spot have seized the buffaloes and took Rahman to hospital where he was treated and also subject to Covid-19 test.
A complaint and counter complaint have been lodged in Urwa police station.
Sourcs said, Rahman had purchased 10 cattle including the four buffaloes from the market at Ranebennur in Haveri district recently. Of these he had sold six and had retained four with him. The incident occurred when he was transporting these four buffaloes on Sunday.
The Urwa Police said that Mohammed Jokatte did not have any documents for transporting the cattle from Jokatte to an abattoir in Kudroli. He was booked under the provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act. The police also registered Mohammed Jokatte’s complaint against the BD activists, who are yet to be identified, under Sections 323 (hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
