Samad has nothing to do with arms case: advocate Solkar

Mangalore Today News Network

Abdul SamadJuly 7: 23-year-old Samad said at a press conference held in Mumbai immediately after his release from jail that the anti terrorism squad had never interrogated him about the Pune German bakery blast and his alleged association with Indian Mujahideen.

Meanwhile Samad’s lawyer Mubin Solkar said that Samad and his family members have been questioned by the Karnataka police regarding his Uncle Iqbal Bhatkal’s whereabouts, but the family says that it knows nothing about Bhatkal. Mr. Solkar said that Bhatkal left the house in 2006 after a quarrel with his father and has never been in touch with the family thereafter.

Solkar also told reporters at the press conference that the name of Bhatkal has been attached to Samad’s name, clarifying that Samad’s name is not Bhatkal and that he has never had that name. The lawyer also clarified that Samad was booked in the arms case of 2009 and that he had nothing to do either with either the arms case or the Pune German bakery blast case.

Mr. Solkar also clarified that he was never questioned about the Pune blast and that he had never visited Pune in his life. He said that Samad was in Bangalore on the day of the blast and that documentary proofs will be available. He also clarified that Samad does not have a brother called Yaseen Bhatkal. His brother’s name is Ahmed Mohammed, who went to Dubai in search of a job in 2005, stayed there for one year and left his father’s house after a quarrel. He has not been in touch with anybody in the family since then.

The lawyer also stated that Samad is not associated with Chhota Shakeel and that he has nothing to do with supplying arms to Chhota Shakeel’s gang members.

A former police officer commented that the intelligence bureau has a reputation for goofing up mainly because the top brass has no field experience. Although Samad was arrested under the Arms Act, he had to be released on bail owing to lack of evidence.
