Mangalore, Jan 10, 2014: The Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya in association with various organizations staged protest in front of DC’s office on January 10, Friday demanding to withdraw the proposed Netravati River Diversion project.
Addressing the protestors, Dinesh Holla, co-ordinator of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya said that every individuals and organizations should come together and joins hands to fight for this cause and cannot leave the issue to the Government. Since government is doing exactly opposite to the demands of public and made us to realize our mistake of voting such corrupt government.
Holla also said that, before the election, Veerappa Moily had assured to withdraw the Netravati diversion project, but now he has completely forgot his promise. River Netravati is the lifeline of the coastal people and fishermen and farmers of the region completely depend on it. The state government is trying to divert the river by spending Rs 60,000 crore for this project, he said.
Holla also said that, though the state government has branded the project as ’drinking water project’, it will be used for industrial purpose. We also condemn few people from Dakshina Kannada who support the project. Hence Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya will hold protest to create awareness among the people of coastal region.
Dr Paramashivayya and Former chief minister Sadananda Gowda are fooling people by giving false assurance of not affecting coastal area, but the study reveals its affect, he added.
Harikrishna Punaroor said that the Government should not give our resources to others. It is our duty save our Netravati river and Tulunadu.
P V Mohan, Dr Niranjan Jain, Dinesh Pai, Madhav Ullal and others were present.
